Fly Me Away To Turkey

Turkey has given me a bit of a headache the last few days. No thanks to an amazing video that is making its rounds on social media. “Watchtower of Turkey” by Leonardo Dalessandri has taken the travel world by storm with its beautiful attention to detail and fantastic editing.

Not only has it managed to capture the beauty of the landscape and majestic architecture, it digs deep into the soul of Turkey – her people. This wonderful video is all kinds of magic. And because of it, I have officially moved Turkey to the top of my list of places to visit (for now, at least).

turkey_watchtower_vimeoYes, I would love nothing more than to be in a hot air balloon overlooking the wondrous landscape of Cappadocia (Image: A screen grab from the video)

Now, I have always wanted to visit Turkey, but other countries have always gotten in the way of my plans. Yes, I am looking at you, Morocco. That’s not to say I regretted visiting other places, but I wish I had made more of an effort with Turkey.

After all, what’s not to love about wandering through Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque or even losing track of time in the Grand Bazaar? And don’t even get me started on Cappadocia!

I hope I can make some time in the (nearer) future to see this wonderful country through my own eyes; to wander the streets, to eat the delicious food, to talk to the locals, maybe even share a meal with them.

Oh, what a magical experience that would be.

  1. I was hoping I would visit Istanbul at the end of this year, but due to some money problems (lack of them, actually), I had to postpone the trip. One day though, one day! 😦
